The North Star is famous for shining more brightly than the rest.  Now, nestled in the heart of the scenic Yorkshire Wolds, you’ll find a lavish, culture-rich Sancton sanctuary incorporating outdoor living at its most indulgent.

The North Star Club is the culmination of a fifteen-year dream held by award winning ex-designers Christian and Carolyn Van Outersterp, to create the quintessential luxury woodland retreat.

Situated in Sancton, North Yorkshire, an idyllic location proudly known as ‘Hockney country’ after its famous resident artist, the North Star Club is a small and intimate retreat, inspired by the Great American Camps that were originally built for wealthy industrialists at the turn of the twentieth century.  Bathed in rustic opulence, the North Star Club is the perfect escape for those who adore the style and setting of a majestic country house, but who also appreciate the relaxing benefits of being at one with nature.

The North Star Club consists of five exclusive Woodland Suites, and 3 rustic Hideaway Suites all of which are fully insulated.  The Woodland Suites are centrally heated and positioned at least 25 metres apart for privacy, and each one boasts its own veranda, cosy sitting room, two bedrooms (one master double with wood burner, one with bunk beds) and an indulgent spa-style bathroom – where you’ll not only be able to enjoy a luxuriant bubble bath, but also choose from an extensive selection of in-room pampering treatments from The North Star’s resident Elemis-trained beauty therapist.

Four of the Woodland Suites are uniquely reflective of the individual style of celebrated local figures.  The Sitwell, inspired by Dame Edith Sitwell – a baronet descended from the Plantagenets – has a bookishly aristocratic ambience, from which you’ll be able to catch up on the latest bestseller.  The Amy Johnson, with its leather and bearskin effects, is the North Star Club’s tribute to the rough glamour of the gutsy pilot herself.

The Moon Suite reflects the rich warmth and charm of Abraham Moon, whose company still supplies stylish Yorkshire-produced tweed after 175 years.  Not forgetting the Woodville, a royal-inspired, richly decorated suite in honour of Elizabeth Woodville, the femme fatale who captured the heart of King Edward IV.  Is there anywhere more appropriate to spend a romantic break?

More information

The North Star Club’s three Hideaway Suites sleep up to 4 people with a large bedroom with kingsize 4 poster bed and comfy sofa bed. The cosy bathroom is accessed through a sliding barn door and has a shower over the bathtub. These rustic suites are decorated in a rugged vintage style and have a large, private, veranda and huge wood burner to keep you snug. The suites include the imaginative Atkinson Grimshaw with its recycled woods and distressed leather all in the style of the artist himself – why not let your own creative spirit run free?  The White Rose is a nod to the symbol of Yorkshire, with its whitewashed recycled timber cladding and silver birch detailing.  The Whitby, with its driftwood and rope detailing, inspires an invigorating nautical life, safe on dry land – with no seasickness!

If you’re in need of a little more pampering, the Star Suite won’t disappoint you, with its beautiful four-poster bed, polished copper bath and its very own infra-red sauna – a delightful place to relax on those crisp winter days!

The Woodshed is the North Star Club’s rustic communal hangout, complete with an outdoor firepit and picturesque woodland as far as your eye can see.  Perfect for stargazing by night, or simply kicking back by day, escaping from everyday life with a steaming mug of tea or coffee – and maybe a slice or two of delicious homemade cake.

The North Star Club has basic self-catering facilities, but with Yorkshire playing host to more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere else in the UK outside of London, why cook for yourself?  One such restaurant, the Pipe and Glass, is within easy distance of the Club, whilst The Star@Sancton, a mere 20-minute walk away, stocks a range of micro beers and a tempting selection of locally produced dishes, with ingredients freshly sourced from its own orchard and allotment garden.

If your catering choice is a romantic supper under the stars then no problem, The Star@Sancton will prepare a delicious meal delivered fresh to your suite, and you can arrange a BBQ pack and breakfast hampers at your convenience.

If you’d rather spend your time away letting off some energetic steam, you’re in luck!  The White Rose Polo Club is practically on the doorstep, providing lessons for complete beginners and practice for the more experienced.  If you’re holidaying in a group, why not book an evening flying party at the Wolds Gliding Club, less than 15 minutes away!  Golf, watersports and clay pigeon shooting are all readily available, and if you’re a gourmet, you’ll be in foodie heaven with a specialised food-finding tour, or with afternoon tea at Drewtons, a local farm shop with a stylish difference – just five minutes’ drive away. Those spending two nights or more at the camp also have access to the fairy trail at Northwood included in their stay, the first of its kind in England, set in a 100-acre magical woodland!

The North Star Club can be hired exclusively for large groups, and is a perfect party space. It is also an intimate wedding celebration venue for up to 35 guests in the Woodshed, and up to 150 in the wider woodlands.  For large celebrations the Club works with Papkata to hire in tipis with fairy lights, dance floor and a cosy fireplace.

So for a truly opulent and memorable outdoor escape that will keep an indulgent smile on your face long after your holiday is over, the North Star Club is your exclusive choice.
