The Mission - the delightfully quirky ‘tin tabernacle' on the Isle of Wight, a divine setting for a bracing island escape you'll soon be saying your prayers to return to!
It stands to reason that The Mission is situated in an designated Area of Outstanding Beauty - Blythe Shute on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, to be exact. This glorious ‘tin tabernacle' sleeps up to eight people in four bedrooms, harmoniously fitting in with its beautiful surroundings to set the scene for a original character-ful break full of amazing coastal scenery and lush countryside that's just perfect for walking, whether you're off to explore the local area or the local pubs!
Built in 1895, this unique living space is just bursting with history, and its vibrantly colourful conversion has remained carefully true to the building's traditions and character. Each room features its very own special flourishes of vintage style and eccentric imagination - for example, how many places have you stayed before where the large and luxurious bath was originally a baptismal font?
Two funky mezzanine bedrooms inhabit the roof space, and downstairs you'll be greeted by an enormous living space with an abundance of plush, retro furnishing and décor that's just perfect for any congregation, along with the hugest woodburning stove you've ever seen - perfect for keeping everyone toasty on colder days, with the obligatory coffee or communion wine in hand after a blustery clifftop walk.
Towards the back, the kitchen and dining area is charmingly decked out in pretty 1950s ‘English Rose' style, with all the contemporary cookware you could wish for...you'll be tying on your pinny in no time to whip up a teatime feast fit for the vicar!
Stroll over to the large and luxurious bathroom with its aforementioned sunken bath fashioned from the original font, just perfect for contemplating the joys of life whilst relaxing with your favourite bathtime elixir.
The building's quaint Sunday school-style annexe features a double/twin room and a fun bunk bedroom with a huge shower to soothe all those aching, well-walked muscles.
Take a wander outside, where you'll find a decked courtyard area with plenty of outdoor-ready seating, perfect for those late and lazy al fresco nights, accompanied by a charcoal barbecue feast and a glass of something heavenly! There's also a grassed area perfect for the kids to play on, and a wilderness garden at the rear...where you'll discover an enchanted tree seat and a little summer house with imaginatively comfy and colourful décor inspired by balmy Indian summers.
There's a lot to get your teeth into in the surrounding area, from the seasonal menus at the nearby Wight Mouse pub, to the magical theme park Blackgang Chine with its variety of attractions and late seasonal illuminations. Oh, and not forgetting the endless array of scenic walking trails - perhaps you could even time your visit for the late October Walking Festival.
So come along and join The Mission...with its deliciously homely and vintage chic feel throughout you'll soon be feeling reborn!

"Wow - what a great place to stay. The Mission
is full of quirky character. It is a great size, is well kitted out and very
comfortable. The table football was a huge success although non of our party
improved over the weekend! Would definitely recommend the Mission as a place to
stay" rating 5*
"We booked The Mission for a relaxing
break with friends and their little boy and had a really lovely time. The
Mission is so spacious and homely, we felt relaxed straight away. Perfect for
chilling out - with it being cold and rainy outside, putting the log burner on
and playing game inside was perfect! I highly recommend staying at the
Mission, especially as a group or a family as it has a lovely feel to the
accommodation and lots of space for kids to play." rating 5*
"The Mission was just amazing. We
spent ages just opening drawers and looking in corners finding new treasures
every time! So much to look at. And it is functional, fully fitted out kitchen
meant we could cook well. The bedrooms were super comfy and so cute! The bath
was amazing- had mountains of bubbles, I felt like a 5 year old again. But the
best bit was the stove, we pulled up the sofa and a chair and sat in front of
the fire drinking mulled apple juice eating cake and playing the selection of
games on hand. Our favourite was Shop Missus- we laughed so hard we cried!"
